OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss held its second men's basketball preseason scrimmage Wednesday night, and head coach Rod Barnes was pleased with his team's improvement over the past week.
"I thought we saw some improvement in a lot of different areas," said Barnes. "I think we need to get better in our conditioning, but overall I was pleased with the guys and their performances."
Freshman Aaron Harper turned in a fine performance for the Rebels. The Jackson, Miss., native scored 19 points, hitting seven of 11 shots. He was two of four from three-point range and three of three from the free-throw line. Harper also collected five assists, three rebounds and two steals.
Emmanuel Wade, Jason Holmes and Justin Reed scored 14 points a piece. Wade was five of six from the field including two of two from the three-point line. Holmes who shot seven for 11 from the field, also added eight rebounds.
"Emmanuel Wade was very aggressive out there tonight," said Barnes. "He is executing very well for us right now."
John Gunn also had a strong night. The sophomore center scored 14 points and grabbed three rebounds.
Ole Miss will open exhibition play Monday, November 6, against Spirit Express at Tad Smith Coliseum at 7 p.m. The Rebels will officially open the season when they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on November 18. Game-time is to be announced.
